History
The idea was introduced by Koldfoot on 18th March, 2009 (GMT). Given the specialised and frequently fierce nature of debate in RSP, it was described as a tool to know the background and character of the posters outside the topics covered by the forum. The first recipent was Chad_Ellis (for more information, see the original thread).
Not surprising for RSP, the precise name and implementation of the award have been somehow fuzzy. Several names have been used, including "RSPer of the Day", "RSPer du Jour" and "RSPer of the Week", but "RSPer of the Next Several Days" has become dominant, reinforcing the informality of the recognition.
How does it work?
The RSPer of the Next Several Days enjoys this honor for around a week. During that week, other RSP posters take turns to congratulate them and ask them a number of questions; popular topics include hobbies, food and beverages, popular culture, past experiences, etc. The awarded answers to those question in detail, often in great lenght. When those several days expire, the recipent chooses a new RSP poster to receive the award next and opens a new thread announcing it.
No requirements have been stated for a user to be awarded, other than obviously posting in RSP. The only guideline for the election of the next recipent was given by Koldfoot at the beginning: the next award must be given to a person that often disagrees with the previous RSPer of the Next Several Days. Most often, this has meant leaps across the political spectrum, but in at least one case the disagreement was stated as religious in nature.
