-The ANZAC Corps
-17,000 men [1] 25,000 men [4] 16,000 landed [7]
-2 Divisions [6]
-Under the command of General Sir Ian Hamilton [6].

Z Beach

-First wave was half of the 9th, 10th and 11th battalions of the 3rd brigade of the Australian 1st Division[6][7].
-Second wave (~an hour later) was the other half of the 9th, 10th and 11th battalions and the complete 12th battalion [6][7]
-The rest of the 1st Division, the 1st and 2nd Brigades, landed a couple of hours later. [6][7]
-The New Zealand and Australian Division had landed by the end of the day [7]
-The New Zealand and Australian Division also had a M?ori infantry battalion [13]. (Is this in addition to the other 8?) The Native Contingent landed at Anzac Cove on 3 July 1915. Here they joined the New Zealand Mounted Rifles and were largely employed as pioneers but they did see action in battle. [19]

Helles

29th Division
  • 86th Brigade
    • 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers (W Beach)
    • 1st Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers (V Beach - got mauled, relocated to W beach)
    • 1st Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers (V Beach - got mauled)
    • 2nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (X Beach)
  • 87th Brigade
    • 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers (Y Beach)
    • 1st Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (X Beach)
    • 1st Battalion, The Border Regiment (X Beach)
    • 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers (3/4 landed on S beach, 1/4 on Y Beach)
  • 88th Brigade
    • 2nd Battalion, The Royal Hampshire Regiment (V but relocated to W)
    • 4th Battalion, The Worcestershire Regiment (Landed some time later in the day, I think W Beach)
    • 5th Battalion, Royal Scots (Not that clear when or where these landed but I'd guess W beach on the first day)
    • 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment (Not that clear when or where these landed but I'd guess W beach on the first day)

63rd (Royal Naval) Division

  • 3rd Marine Brigade
    • 11th (Plymouth) Battalion (Y Beach)
    • Pretty sure there was another RND Battalion here but not sure which and where. (I think this is Hood Batt, as they show up at Krithia prior to 6th May [22] -- Phil)

-The 29th Division augmented by two battalions from the Royal Naval Division; the Plymouth and Anson Battalions [3]
-35,000 men [1]
-12 Battalions [3]
-Under the Command of Major-General Aylmer Hunter-Weston [2]

The plan was to land in two parts. Firstly a covering force, the 86th Brigade plus some additional units, would land and secure the beaches. The main force would follow up and advance to the first day objectives; the village of Krithia and the hill of Achi Baba. [3]

the 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers and 1st Royal Munster Fusiliers — had been so badly mauled during the landing that they were combined to form a composite battalion, known as the "Dubsters". The battalions were reformed following the evacuation. The Munsters moved to the 48th Brigade of the 16th (Irish) Division in May 1916. They were joined in the 16th Division by the Dubliners in October 1917. [3]

S Beach

-1 Battalion of reduced size. [1]
-Three companies of the 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers. [3]
-The opposition of 15 Turks were swiftly captured and casualties were light. These companies remained, virtually untouched, for two days until the French took over the right flank at Helles. [3]

V Beach

-3 Battalions, 1 of these Battalions was split with half landing at V Beach and half at Sedd El Bahr [1]
-First the 1st Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, (700 men) landed . The 1st Battalion of the Royal Munster Fusiliers plus two companies of the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Hampshire Regiment (from the 88th Brigade) and one company of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers (2000 men) were ready to land. Of these only 4 companies landed on V Beach. [3]

-~2000 casualties [3]

W Beach

-1 Battalion [1] shortly followed by 3 more Battalions [1]
-The 1st Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers (The battalion suffered 533 casualties, over half its strength) [3][5]. The Main force then landed on W beach (includes those which couldn't land on V Beach(?)).

-W Beach became the main British base at Helles for the rest of the campaign. [3]

X Beach

-1 Battalion shortly followed by 2 more Battalions [1]
-Two companies of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, were ashore by 6.30am without a casualty. The beach had been covered by 12 Turks who fled from the point-blank bombardment by the battleship [3].
-The 1st Battalion, The Border Regiment and 1st Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, landed at X Beach later in the day.[3]
-These men joined up with W Beach within hours. [3]

Y Beach

-2 Battalions [1]
-Two thousand men were landed at Y Beach, starting at 5.45am. They consisted of the Plymouth Battalion, RND, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Godfrey Matthews, the 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers under Lieutent Colonel Archibald Koe and a company from the 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers.[3]

-This beach and Krithia were deserted but due to command problems these battalions did nothing until they were counter attacked 12 hours later and suffered 700 casualties. They then made an unauthorized retreat. [3]

Elsewhere

A Division of French landed at Kum Kale, "the rest" of the British feinted north of Bulair and "part" of the French feinted at Besika Bay. [1]

-The French Corps expéditionnaire d'Orient had already redeployed to Helles by April 28 [16]

-The Hawke, Bendow and Collingwood Battalions later joined the RND and in early august RND amalgamated into 2 marine brigades [24]

-Some time in April Helles was reinforced by the 29th Indian Infantry Brigade. These were initially meant to help the anzacs but were diverted. [8][13] At least the 6th bat was already present in the first battle of Krithia on the 28th [16]

-On the 5/6th of May the 2nd Australian Brigade and the NZ Brigade were moved to Helles [24]

-On September 19 the Royal Newfoundland Regiment arrives as reinforcement for Suvla bay. [10]

-In May 1915, the Australian and New Zealand mounted soldiers were sent to Gallipoli as infantry reinforcements, the Australian 1st and 3rd Light Horse Brigades and the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade joined the division. As mounted brigades contained fewer men than infantry brigades, and these brigades had left a portion of their strength in Egypt to attend the horses, each brigade mustered only about 1500 men and hence combined were roughly equivalent to the missing infantry brigade.[13]

-The Australian 2nd Division began arriving on July 26 and had a srength of 18000
