website: UK Games Expo
Wiki : UK Games Expo
These were new in 2007 at the first UK Games Expo. The UK Games Expo Awards were developed to recognize the achievement of games companies in a variety of games genres but in particular to board games which in the UK have not been previously recognized sufficiently.

How the awards Work:
Games products being demonstrated at UK Games Expo are eligible for entry into the awards. Games Companies may define which category their product falls within. Here are the categories:

  • Categories for Expo Awards 2008
    1. Début Boardgame
    2. Boardgame
    3. Family
    4. Children's
    5. Role-playing
    6. Miniatures
    7. Abstract/Puzzle
    8. Card
    9. Special Award

Début Boardgame
UK Games Expo attracts many board game companies and to encourage the best new releases to occur at it the category “Début Boardgame” applies to Board Games that are released at or immediately before the Expo. This means they are available for sale at UK Games Expo.

All other Awards
Apart from “Début Boardgame” all other games must have been released in the 12 months from and including the last UK Games Expo (June 2nd and 3rd 2007).

Best Abstract or Puzzle Game is the one exception in 2008. As it was not included in the awards in 2007 puzzle or abstract games that were shown at UK Games Expo 2007(but perhaps released before it) will be considered in 2008 along with other newer releases.

The UK Games Expo Special Award is a special category. If a particular game or company is considered worthy of an award who otherwise would not have been considered (perhaps an older game) they might gain this award to reflect some special achievement. This award will remain at the discretion of the organizers.

Certain categories may not be awarded in the case of insufficient entrants.

Who decides on the Awards?
The awards will be determined by a system that will involve both voting by the public over the weekend and from the opinion of a Panel of Judges appointed by the organizers. The judges will look for games which are original, engaging , attractive and exciting.

Games companies are encouraged to submit a review copy in advance of the Expo to give the panel a better opportunity to assess the product. Awards will be announced around 3pm on Sunday 1st June 2008.

Use of the Award
A special logo will be designed which may be used by winners on their game.
