VGGeek of the Week
History
Following the grand traditions of Geek of the Week and RPG Geek of the Week, the "Video Game Geek of the Week" is here to help us get to know our fellow videogame geeks. The VGGotW's week lasts from Sunday through Saturday (Sunday is the Switchover day).
The Nomination Process
The current VGGotW alone chooses and introduces the next VGGotW. There are no official qualifications for this honor. The nominee is simply someone that the current VGGotW thinks the rest of the Video Game community should get to know better. The reasoning and choice is entirely up to the current VGGotW. However, in an effort to spread the VGGotW honors around please consider the following:
- The nominee should not be known personally to the current VGGotW
- The nominee should be from a different country
The current VGGotW sends a geekmail to one of them asking if they would accept the honor. This should be done early in the week to give everyone time to prepare for the next week. In addition, if a potential nominee declines, the current VGGotW can quickly contact another nominee.
What Does the Nominated VGGotW Need to Do to Prepare?
The nominee needs to write a brief introduction of him- or herself. The contents and length of this introduction is entirely up to the nominee, but should focus to some extent on their gaming career and interests. Some honorees have written only a brief paragraph, others have written several paragraphs that go into great detail.
In addition, the nominee should provide the current VGGotW with his or her answers to the following questions:
[quote]
- What is the worst game you ever played (and why)?
- What is your favorite video game-related memory?
- How long was your longest single VG-playing-session ever (and what game(s))?
- What is your current platform of choice?
- What are you playing now, and what will you be playing next?
- Do you use cheat codes?
- What is your favorite contribution (of yours or of another user) to VGG (provide a link, if possible)?
Now, list your Top 5 Games of All Time. Give some thought to which of these games you would keep if it were the only game you could have the rest of your life. Throughout your week in the spotlight, your fellow VGGeeks must guess which game you will select (and perhaps they may even try to sway you throughout the week why you should select a particular game, or maybe even why your favorites all suck!) At the end of the week, (right before passing the torch to the next VGGotW and going back to your mundane life) post a final message revealing your selection and why.

When finished, this introduction and the responses to the above questions are sent to the current VGGotW. Before their week begins, the nominee should also look over their profile information and make sure it's up-to-date - people will look at a VGGotW's profile.
What is Expected of the VGGotW During His/Her Week?
The main responsibility of the VGGotW is to answer questions, to the best of their ability, from other board members interested in learning more about him or her. Aside from this core responsibility, there are a few other expectations. He or she should:
- Display the VGGotW microbadge in the center of their display for the week.
- Decide on a successor, and prepare for introducing him or her the next week.
How Does the VGGotW Introduce the Next VGGotW?
After receiving the nominee's personal introduction, the current VGGotW does the following:
- Creates a new thread - some time on Sunday - on the VGG News forum with the subject in the format VGGeek of the Week #___ - Full Name (username). Make sure the thread has a link back to this wiki page.
- He or she then writes a brief personal introduction of the new VGGotW, and includes the nominee's introduction in quote format.
- After quoting the new VGGotW's bio, provide the questions and nominee's responses to the standard VGGotW questions. Create a poll with the question: "Which of these 5 games will (the nominee) select as the one game he would keep if he could have no other games the rest of his life?" and the answer choices as the five games they listed. If you have any problems creating the thread and poll or figuring out how to quote and format things properly - send a geekmail to Speedracer513.
- Once the thread has been created, the retiring VGGotW should send a message to an Admin asking them to pin the new VGGotW thread. Currently the admin handling the VGGeek of the Week threads is Speedracer513.
- Important: To keep things simple, the current VGGotW should include three links when they notify the VGGotW admin:
- A link to the outgoing VGGotW thread that needs to be un-pinned.
- A link to the incoming VGGotW thread that needs to be pinned.
- A link to the new VGGotW's profile (so the admin can give them their shiny new microbadge:
).)
- After that, the retired VGGotW can relax and appreciate his or her participation in a great tradition.
