Re-posted from BGG:
This past weekend I attended E3 2017 for the first time as part of my day job. This ever changing convention still holds a place as a focal point for video gaming news. This year marked the re-introduction of the public to the show and in a big way.
Games that fall in our wheelhouse are not as common there, but there were a few gems I found along the way. Overall it was impressive to see the spectacle and gathering of gamers.
It was hard to miss the giant display for Total War Warhammer II. This imposing lizard highlighted the major update here: introduction of new races included Lizard Men, High Elf, Dark Elf, and more. This game is PC only but if your machine can handle it, you should check it out. Honestly, Total War Warhammer captures the classic tabletop minis in a way I didn’t think possible. This new expansion/standalone seems like the perfect addition.
Along these lines, they were also showing off a new edition of Blood Bowl II. I actually don’t know much about this but it looked kinda cool. Moving along…
One surprise was at the new merchandise booth for Square Enix. I was happy to see copies of the Final Fantasy TCG and Chocobo Crystal Hunt at the shop. These are fun translations of the classic video games onto the tabletop. This may be a sign that we’ll see more of these in stores soon. I’ll have a video up on these soon.
While there wasn’t much in the major keynotes on things we follow, Bethesda did have one thing. Elder Scrolls: Legends is a game we haven’t covered too much, but perhaps we’ll dive in soon. It is a collectible game set in the Elder Scrolls universe. The good news that it is coming to iPhone and Android phones next month.
The last thing I was was a bit of a surprise. It looks like The Pillars of the Earth, the property, not the board game, is coming in video game form. If you are a fan of this book, this may be a good game to check out. We’ll provide more details as we have them. The game appears to be pretty story based with beautiful art. It looks slated for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Mobile.
Here are a few other great photos from the show:
