Dark Reign

"The Dark Reign series of RTS games includes Dark Reign, Dark Reign: Rise fo the Shadowhand (an expansion to the original), and Dark Reign 2 (a 3d RTS released a couple of years after the original). Dark Reign 2 (DR2) was a completely different game mechanically - the difference between DR2 and the original being comparable to the difference between Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3.

The series enjoyed a cult following, some of which still exists today. Most critics and supporters agree that Dark Reign 2 did not live up to the pre-release hype. The lack of commercial success for DR2 supports this assertion.
